Del Oro High School

Week Four - Fall 2026

Posted Date: 09/04/26 (06:55 AM)

Two young women sit on padded gym bleachers, working on a large yellow banner with an outline drawing.

Principal’s Message:

We had our first Homecoming Sketch Day last weekend. These are opportunities for students from each class to get together and sketch out the massive posters that will eventually cover our halls and gyms during Homecoming Week.

If you're new to Del Oro, you need to know that Homecoming is something different here.
There are work nights, spirit wars, a staff dance, dress-up days, royalty pranks, rally shenanigans, a downtown parade, and a dance... oh, and there's a football game too.

We're still a month away, but with the first Sketch Day in the books, Homecoming season has officially begun!

The next Sketch Day is tomorrow from 10-2. Students, you should come!

Welcome to the Black Hole

One fun Del Oro tradition happens before our first home football game: the 9th-Grade Tailgate! Last friday, our 9th graders met in the quad before the game for music, pizza, chips, candy, and probably some vegetables.

Then, just before the varsity game began, the 9th graders paraded down to the stadium and onto the track. From there, they were officially welcomed into the Black Hole, the best student section around, by hundreds of upperclass students cheering them on.

It's a pretty fun way to tell our newest Golden Eagles: you're one of us now.

Government Dance Battles

When you're doing a Mock Congress exercise in AP Government and need to decide who will become Speaker of the House, there are plenty of ways to settle the competition.

But why give a campaign speech when you can challenge your opponent to a dance battle?

Ms. Montgomery and her students are definitely keeping the learning fun!

With election season around the corner, maybe they're onto something. It may not make our elections any more effective, but they'd certainly be more entertaining.

Cardiac Survivors

Our Cross Country team has a tradition of training on Cardiac Hill in Auburn, and if you've ever run it, you know how brutal it is. From the river to the top of the canyon, runners climb roughly 700-800 feet in just .8 miles. The average grade is around 14%, with sustained sections that are easily 20%.

To put that in perspective, it's a little like climbing a 70-story building while also moving forward almost a mile.

This week, our runners took on the Cardiac Challenge: 13 boys broke the 10-minute mark and seven girls finished under 12 minutes, earning the coveted DO Cardiac Badge.

That's a lot of Golden Eagles flying up a hill that I would argue was not designed for running. It's going to be a great season for Del Oro Cross Country!

Shakespeare Goes West

Last week, I spotted a group of students set up in the theater foyer, signing up their classmates for auditions for this year's fall play.

It's Shakespeare with a twist.

Ms. Watson and her team are taking on Much Ado About Nothing, but this version will be set in the Wild West. We've already got around 30 Del Oro students involved, both on stage and behind the scenes on the tech side.

I can't wait to see what they do with it. Shakespeare, cowboys, and a group of talented Golden Eagles.  So much fun!!

Mark your calendars for November 13-15!

Winning Games and Having Fun
