Week Three - Spring 2026

Principal’s Message: 

My wife and I had the chance to put on plastic bibs, crack crab shells, and help raise funds for the storied Del Oro Band last weekend at the annual Crab Feed at the Blue Goose. The evening included a silent auction, a live auction, and a dessert auction where friendly bidding wars led to some very expensive peach cobbler. It is always a highlight for me to see our remarkable band students step up, engage with the community, and help raise the funds that keep this outstanding program strong.

• Board Showcase: Tuesday marked Del Oro and Confluence West’s annual opportunity to present at a school board meeting. This year, we focused on how well we are preparing students for life after high school. We shared data that we are genuinely proud of, but more importantly, we told the stories of the students behind those numbers. It was a fun opportunity to highlight the work happening every day across our campus. Here is a link to the portion of the board meeting where our presentation begins.
• Cheer Championships: In their competitions last weekend, Varsity Comp Cheer placed 2nd, and JV placed 3rd. Thanks for making us proud, ladies!
• Happy 100th Birthday: World War II veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient Corporal Frank S. Wright turned 100 last year, and his wish was to receive 100,000 birthday cards/letters/notes to celebrate.  Several groups of Del Oro Students wrote birthday cards this week to send his way.  I love this place!
• Soccer Cleans Up: Living out the Del Oro character pillar WE SERVE, Coach Yoshida and members of the girls soccer team spent part of their weekend helping clean up the stadium. They did not stop at the obvious areas and even got under the bleachers to gather trash. Take a look at the final photo with smiling faces and a very impressive pile of full trash bags.
• More Than Basketball: Yes, our varsity boys beat Oak Ridge on Wednesday night, and yes, it was an exciting game. But what made the evening truly special were a few moments that had nothing to do with the final score. Jordan Liddicoat sang the national anthem, and it was absolutely beautiful. At halftime, a future Golden Eagle stepped to the line and knocked down a shot to win some swag from Loomis Ace Hardware as the student section erupted in cheers. And my favorite moment of the night was meeting a 90-year-old mom who showed up with a friend to watch her son referee the JV game. She is the one in the white collar sitting proudly behind him in the photo. These are the moments that remind me why nights like this matter so much at Del Oro.
• Bringing Spirit to a School Board Meeting: Tuesday night’s board meeting got a dose of classic Del Oro energy thanks to a true legend. We invited Bob Erickson to lead the room in a few cheers, and he did not disappoint. At 88 years old, Bob brought the same enthusiasm and school spirit that has inspired generations of Golden Eagles. I want to take a moment to share an update and ask for your partnership around vaping. We continue to take this issue seriously, and our admin team and Student Intervention Specialists are regularly checking bathrooms throughout the school day. When more than one student is found in a stall, students are subject to search and school discipline in accordance with district policy and California Education Code.

That said, school supervision alone is not enough. Research continues to show that conversations at home are one of the most effective ways to reduce teen vaping. Talking openly with your student about health risks, social pressure, and decision-making can make a real difference. We encourage you to take a few minutes to check out trusted resources such as the CDC’s youth vaping information or the Truth Initiative, both of which offer conversation starters and parent-focused guidance.
